Phir Dekhiye Rock On Song Review on Rajshri.com

September 8, 2008

‘Phir Dekhiye’ has been sung wonderfully by Caralisa Monteiro in the movie Rock On, going solo with her rendition. With just a guitar in the background, this number is about being positive in life. Caralisa is holding the center stage throughout this 3 minute outing. Just like Dominique’s ‘Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein’ which was heard a while back.

The next song in the Rock On album is ‘Sindbad The Sailor’. This song is about the sailor who fought against all odds to reach his destination. Farhan Akhtar comes behind the mike with Raman Mahadevan and together they jam up the show to create something unconventional yet again.

Rock On Review

August 30, 2008

Rock On movie is youthful yet elegant. It’s contemporary yet identifiable with, by anyone who’s had a tiff with a close one. Yes, the layers of love for rock music and issues related to urban life need to be peeled off. But at the core it’s a very simple story told with compassion and sophistication.

Each character in the movie represents to any kind of people any group of friends has. There is an idealist in the group whose self-respect does not resign to compromise (Arjun Rampal), a slightly self-centered one who can’t see when he falters (Farhan Akhtar), the easy-go-lucky guy who doesn’t let anything bother him too much (Purab Kohli) and the one who’s more emotionally attached to the ‘group’ sentiment than the rest (Luke Kenny). With the male-bonding as the central theme of the movie, it’s refreshing to see women with well thought out characters who influence the direction of the story. Prachi Desai is the strong yet vulnerable Sakshi. You feel like shaking her man to consciousness when he’s ignoring her despite the anxiety her eyes convey. You sympathize with Debbie’s frustration which Shahana Goswami so strongly brings across.

Together, we see the group maturing smoothly from adolescent “we can conquer the world” enthusiasm to learning to live life the hard way. And yet, even the two less important roles (Purab and Luke) have defining qualities and are not restricted to being the protagonists’ “inner voice”. Moreover, this is all done in good humor. Writer, Abhishek has also shown some imaginative strokes. The onscreen performances of the actors mirror the status of their characters in the band throughout the movie. Almost as if the rock band’s chemistry is shared by the four actors.

Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein’ is an out and out Hindi number from the film Rock On and it’s soft rock feel with minimal arrangements in the background. This song makes you long for a candle light dinner with the song being performed live in the background. Dominique Carejo has been around for last few years and the lady has delivered whenever given an opportunity, whether for English or a Hindi song.

Rock On Music Video on Rajshri.com

August 28, 2008

Rock on is the Title track of the Farhan Akhtar’s Rock On movie. The track sounds similar to the background music which ran behind Hrithik Roshan in Lakshya and it forms the basic rhythm of the title song ‘Rock On!!’. The number looks a like a fusion of  ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ feel with the rock mood. ‘Rock On!!’ was the chosen video for the initial round of the film’s promotion and is doing extremely well.

Pichle Saat Dinon Mein Video on Rajshri.com

August 27, 2008

The sound of electronic guitar marks the begining of the song ‘Pichle Saat Dinon Mein’. The rhythm of ‘Na Na Na Na Na’ compliments well with the rhythm of the track. Farhan is heard solo yet again in this track. This track is repeated towards the end of the album as a LIVE performance, too. Overall Shankar, Eshaan and Loy have done an extremely good job in Rock on. The visuals are well directed to create a euphoric atmosphere.

Rock on song Socha Hai Promo on Rajshri.com

August 26, 2008

Rock On marks the debut of Farhan Akhtar as a singer who is singing as many as 5 tracks. The first track of the movie is ‘Socha Hai’ which talks about the basic facts of life and nature around mankind. As required by the setting of the film, ‘Socha Hai’ gives a rock beginning to the album. However, it has a strong sense of déjà vu as one has heard the tune innumerous in Pakistani rock albums in the last few years. Farhan does a fine job behind the mike as one looks forward to what else does he have in store in songs to come.
